While running errands one day in early November, I encountered some unexpected roses growing outside along a path. The pink and white color scheme was such a refreshing contrast to all of autumn’s browns, reds, and oranges. I had to take a few pictures to share (linked to NM’s series).
~
I also grabbed a photo of indoor orchids, which is linked to JNW’s OWPC (here). Even though it was chilly outside, these resplendent, finicky orchids were growing well indoors.
Side note – even though I DO love flowers, believe it or not, the rose and the orchid are not “top” flowers for me. I appreciate their beauty and classy blooms, but will never have these in my home or personal garden.
In the 1990’s, our first home came with almost a dozen rose bushes – and after managing to not kill the final five, I never quite bonded with this flower and it has not made it’s way into my personal garden ever since. While my older sister would be greatly moved by two dozen red roses, for me – it is a mixed bouquet that would bring a smile my way.
And the orchid?? My friend Karin has a green thumb for this amazing flower – and I sort of appreciate seeing them at the dentist’s office or at the entrance of Trader Joe’s – but just not a flower I love and only makes it to my B list. (And if you are wondering what is on my A list- well it is the Rose of Sharon, Zinnia, Hibiscus, Geranium, Clematis, and Mandevilla instantly spring to mind.)
~
In closing, as the errand running winded down that day, I noticed some luminous window displays:

Have a nice day.

The water drops on the flowers add that little something to them, Beautiful 🙂

I agree with you. I prefer plants that are more hardy and don’t mind if you under water or over water on occasion 🙂

I hear orchids, as you said, are incredibly finicky. I’m amazed they’re all doing so well, I don’t see one wilt in the bunch. Great captures here. Thank you for sharing.

Yes I heard that two – and I have killed a couple – but i did not follow the directions with the cup that was attached and not the proper space in the house (too much work) but I almost wonder if they have hearty varieties (like they do with hibiscus) and trader joes seems to have thriving ones too – and has them in three sizes and pretty inexpensive too…. Hm

They may. If there are hearty varieties I’d be much more likely to have one at the house.

That shot of the orchids is really neat, Yvette! And I do know just what you mean about those “popular” flowers not making your own list…..I think I’m the same way….I tend to like different than the norm when it comes to things I put in my own gardens.

Thanks for sharing that – and I think it took me a little bit to first see what was out there and then explore what we like

Lovely colours and such a nice change from our current grey world. As I think we have previously discussed I can’t even take care of artificial plants let alone orchids!

I took just one shot of some tiny pink flowers growing up against a wall in the Lake District, Yvette. The walls were all grey slate and there was just one white pebble dashed one with its little splash of colour. 🙂 I do like orchids though. And your snazzy windows 🙂

Beautiful photos, as usual, Yvette. Those orchids are sublime, even if you’re not that fond of them 🙂

So do I. The orchids I have at home are going to be blooming in a couple of weeks or so. That’s going to be a nice December gift 🙂
